The Writer - Wayne Gumble
"Stand and Deliver" is Wayne Gumble’s first venture into the world of comedy musical theatre. Originally titled "Naughty Sport - The 80s Musical" the football fanzine theme has featured in his writing since the 1980s when the Naughty Sport publication was originally born. Described by one website as a combination of Aldous Huxley’s ‘Brave New World’ and The Sunday Sport, Naughty Sport became an instant hit with Enfield FC fans and was awarded the prize of top Enfield fanzine in its first season.
Following a few years of rest, the fanzine re-surfaced in 2001 as a web-based publication.
Once again, the unique brand of humour and lewdness hit the mark with fans of non-league football, so much so that Naughty Sport was the Non-League UK top-rated website from October 2002 until May 2003 when it was officially retired from service with a celebratory ‘Best of Naughty Sport’ printed version.

The retirement of Naughty Sport allowed writer Wayne Gumble to
collaborate with author, George Rowland, to produce his first book, ‘The Capital Crimes’, part of the ‘Clubs in Crisis’ series. The book described the background and politics of the creation of Enfield Town Football Club.
Rick Broadbent of The Times described the book as “…recommended reading for all fat cats in football’s underbelly”.

Aside from the Naughty Sport inspired work, Wayne has seen his
work published in a number of well-respected industry publications which have
included; ‘Marketing Week’ (on subjects such as Obesity and Innovation),
‘Management Services Journal’ (Idea generation) and ‘Post Office
Consulting Journal’ (Project managing what was the largest IT project in Europe at the time).
However, humour continues to feature heavily in his writing portfolio evidenced by a number of individual pieces in various lifestyle magazines, a regular slot in 'Management Services Journal' as The Trained Observer and a host of press cuttings following a season as a guest columnist in the sports pages of the ‘Enfield Gazette’.
Since Stand and Deliver! was performed, Wayne has been involved in a small way with a script for the London Film Network Festival 2013 - Colonel Badd [details here] and is currently in the final stages of adapting a novel into a script/screenplay for an incredible comedy/musical project. The plot sees robots taking earth's knowledge into the future following the destruction of mankind in order that the newly-developed planet can be full of cultured and intelligent humans. Wayne is working alongside Sue Edward, who wrote the original novel, and Johnny Edward, famed as creator of Metal Mickey and writer of the 80's chart-topper, "Save Your Love."
